Which opens once in many myriad years –
But opened, fills the world with Wisdom’s scent
And love’s dropped honey.’

Chinese New Year Special
~ Mangala Sutta (Discourse On Blessings)

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Happy Chinese New Year!

Many blessings to you and all your loved ones!

The Buddha was once asked by a heavenly being what constituted the highest blessings. He replied by describing “blessings” that are wholesome pursuits and attainments from the mundane to the ultimate spiritual goal.

As we usher in the Horse Year, let us come together and learn what are the supreme blessings and most valuable in this life.

“He whose mind does not waver,

By contact with wordly contingencies,

Sorrowless, stainless and secure;

This is Blessing Supreme.”

~ Mangala Sutta

We look forward to your loving presence.

With Loving Kindness,
Jian Xin

Dharma Sharing Nite
~Rebirth Of The Three Groups In
Amitabha Buddha’s Pure Land

Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Do you know that amongst all the heavenly and human beings who make aspirations to be reborn in Amitabha Buddha’s Pure Land, they can be categorized in Three Groups – Upper, Middle and Lower?

What is the significance of these Three Groups?

What are the characteristics of the beings who belong to each group?

How can we aspire to have a good “score card” in this life in terms of our Faith, Aspiration and Practice and belong to the Upper Group?

In this session, I will share about these Three Groups as expounded by Shakyamuni Buddha in Chapter 24 of the “Infinite Life Sutra”.

We look forward to your loving presence.

If one were to make offerings to the sages like the sand in the Ganges, It is still uncomparable to seeking Enlightenment with determination and courage”

~The Buddha

Dharma Sharing Nite
– Heart Sutra ~ The Perfection of Wisdom Sutra

Have you heard of the Heart Sutra (Xin Jing)?

Do you know that the Heart Sutra is one of the shortest sutras, yet it contains the essence of Wisdom and holds the key to transcend suffering and attain Enlightenment?

In the beginning of the sutra, it expounds that Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion, meditating deeply on Perfection of Wisdom, saw clearly that all aspects of human existence are empty, and so released himself from suffering.

Emptiness refers to the fact that no thing – including human existence – has ultimate substantiality, which in turn means that no thing is permanent and no thing is totally independent of everything else. In other words, everything in this world is interconnected and in constant flux. A deep appreciation of this idea of emptiness thus saves us from the suffering caused by our egos, our attachments, and our resistance to change and loss.

In this session, we will share about the essence of the Heart Sutra and how it can help us transcend the imperfections of life and attain the Perfection of Wisdom.

We look forward to your loving presence.

“Gate, gate, paragate, parasamgate, bodhi svaha.”

(Gone, gone, gone beyond, gone all together beyond, awaken, all hail.)

Dharma Sharing Nite
~ Mara – The Buddhist “Demon”

Who is Mara?

How did he tempt the Buddha to obstruct Him from gaining Enlightenment?

How does he distract practitioners from the spiritual life?

Is he an entity having a literal existence or is he also a psychological force – a metaphor for various processes of doubt and temptation that obstruct spiritual practice?

In this session, we will share about Mara and how to overcome him and his forces.

We look forward to your loving presence.
